Sheriff’s officer puts out fire
01/18/2009
Newburgh, NY - A sergeant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is credited with extinguishing a fire in a home in the Town of Montgomery.

At about 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, Sgt. Paul Arteta was en route to his residence after completing his tour of duty. Just as he was passing a residence at 622 Route 17K, he heard a 911 call for a fire at that location.

Arteta retrieved the fire extinguisher from his unmarked police vehicle and met the residents of the home who led him to the location of the fire.

Flames were shooting out of the wall from an electrical receptacle a bedroom. Arteta quickly extinguished the fire and cut electrical power from the home.

The Coldenham Fire Department also responded to ensure no further action was necessary.
